Turn2Candles is a small business run by two teachers, Jay and Chrissy. During the 2020 COVID quarantine, we began looking for a creative way to spend our time doing something meaningful and enjoyable. Candle making quickly became a source of happiness and fulfillment, and before long, we were committed to learning the art of handcrafting soy wax candles.
We decided to turn that passion into a business by creating hand-poured soy candles using recycled wine and liquor bottles. Jay mastered the precision of cutting and polishing glass, allowing us to rescue bottles that would otherwise be thrown away and transform them into beautiful, handcrafted candles. While we specialize in upcycled bottle candles, we also offer classic jar candles and wax melts to give our customers a variety of options.
Our story and our name are closely connected. We chose the name Turn2Candles because it represents four meaningful parts of our journey.
First, we quite literally turned to candle making during the COVID quarantine. What began as a creative outlet during a difficult and uncertain time quickly grew into something we were deeply passionate about.
Second, Turn2Candles represents our second turn at marriage. This business reflects a fresh start built on shared creativity, commitment, and teamwork.
Third, the phrase “Turn 2” is slang for a double play in baseball, and since Jay is a retired high school baseball coach, the name felt like a natural and personal fit.
Finally—and at the heart of everything we do—we turn wine and liquor bottles into candles, giving them a second life through upcycling and thoughtful craftsmanship. Transforming discarded bottles into hand-poured soy candles reflects our commitment to sustainability and creative reuse.
Every Turn2Candles product is lovingly hand-poured in small batches using clean-burning soy wax and carefully selected fragrance oils. Each candle tells a story of creativity, renewal, and care—from the bottle it began in to the space it’s meant to fill.
